Kulpreet Singh, currently based in Patiala – was born in 1985 in Sangrur, Punjab, and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from DLC State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak, Haryana. As he grew up surrounded by the fields of Punjab and has been an active part of the Indian Farmers’ protest in 2020-2021, Kulpreet Singh has developed a creative approach heavily influenced by the themes of land, labour, ecology, and memory.
The widely recognized body of works Indelible Black Marks I consists of several monumental collaborative projects made on a long piece of white cotton fabric reaching up to 30 metres. In the series that followed called Indelible Black Marks II, the artist performed a transformation of the traditional agricultural activity called “stubble burning” into an artistic action.
After participating in two back-to-back solo shows organized by Galerie Mirchhandani + Steinruecke, Mumbai (November 2024 and January 2025), Singh received an invitation to join the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2025–26) and the Biennale of Sydney (2026). His ongoing art project, titled The Extinction Archive, which includes over 1,200 drawings, was showcased at the India Art Fair by Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, in 2026.
Singh has been awarded many prestigious awards such as the Mrinalini Mukherjee Creative Arts Grant (2022–23), Hayward Gallery/Kochi-Muziris Biennale (HG-KMB) Award (2025–26), and the Asia Society Future (India) Award (2026). The artist held his first solo show in the United Kingdom at the HENI Project Space of the Hayward Gallery in London from 16 June 2026 till 2 August 2026.
